Tis the season to get out and sshoe, before the snow gets too deep.
Below are several areas that will get you out, without killing you right off the bat. ANTOINE PEAK There are several routes to the top, that will give you outstanding views of the Spokane Valley and the Mica Peak area across the valley. MICA PEAK Whether you start at Liberty Lake or the Belmont Road access, you are assured of a hard workout and many great views. ILLER CREEK This sshoe in the Dishman Hills Conservancy, is a classic. Here, the views of the Palouse are spectacular. BIG ROCK You access this route via Stevens Creek from the south end of the Dishman Hills Conservancy. It goes to the same viewpoint as the Iller Creek route, but from the opposite end. PEND ORIELLE COUNTY PARK The park up by Newport, offers many routes and destinations to enjoy. PILLICK RIDGE Pillick Ridge is in the Proposed Scotchman Peak Wilderness. As you ascend the ridge, the views across Hwy 56, of the Cabinet Mountain Wilderness, and the Clark Fork River are worth the effort. ROSS CREEK CEDARS Altho you may have to sshoe up three miles to get to the grove, your efforts will award you with walks amongst giants. JOHNSON CREEK DELTA This area is located on the NE end of Pend Orielle Lake near Clark Fork.You will be able to sshoe out to great views of the lake and surrounding mountains. SULLIVAN LAKE No matter what season you walk this lakeside trail, you will be in awe. We’ve actually kayaked south to the Noisy Creek Campground, chain up the kayaks, and walk back to the north end launch. No matter which of these or others you choose, getting out now will get you in shape for more sshoeing and skiing.
