IF AN EMERGENCY OCURRS, EVALUATE YOUR CIRCUMSTANCES AND CALL ONLY IF NEEDED.Trail #189 climbs steadily, and steeply for a little over 2 miles to Big Dick Point 5419’. Then in another 2+ miles you reach Shefoot Mountain. There are a few drops in the trail along this route, but they are only about 300 verts. Shefoot Mountain it’s self is quit spectacular. In the early summer the whole area is covered with Beargrass and other wildflowers.
OPTION #1:
There is an easier way to get to Shefoot Mountain. Via the Moon Pass Road #456, you can drive up thru one of the deep switchbacks of the Hiawatha Trail, to near the top of Sheefoot.
There is an advantage to driving to Turkey Point, near Shefoot. You can park near Turkey Point and do a nice 4 mile off trail loop over and under Shefoot Mountain. That’s when you get the spectacular views of the area.
