DESCRIPTION:
WE HAVE ADDED THE AREAS SHERIFF’S EMERGENCY PHONE NUMBERS FOR EACH TRIP WRITE UP UNDER THE RANGER DISTRICT INFO. IF AN EMERGENCY OCURRS, EVALUATE YOUR CIRCUMSTANCES AND CALL ONLY IF NEEDED.
The Little Guard Lookout Tower is a rental well worth the dollars to stay there. The USFS asks that you park your car at the gate, but may allow you access to take gear up.
The actual lookout is built on concrete blocks about 10 feet off the ground.
The views of the Cabinet Mountain Wilderness is incredible, and is only 22 miles NE.

OPTION #1:
Trail #81 hikes north for more then 7 miles along the ridge. Downey Peak 6020’ in 1 mile, Bennett Peak 6209’ in about 2 miles, Little Sentinel Peak 6134’ in 2.5 miles, Sentinel Peak 6000’ in 3.5 miles, and Pond Peak 6136’ in about 4 miles, stretches north for hiking.
DIRECTIONS:
From I-90, take Exit #43 (Kingston) and drive 24 miles north on Forest Highway 9 to Prichard junction. From there, continue on Forest Road 208 for about 5 miles to Forest Road 602 (on the right just past Shoshone Base Camp). Drive about 9 miles to the lookout at the end of the road. Vehicles with high clearance and good tires are strongly recommended.
HAZARDS:
Way too many incredible views. You. may become addicted to fire lookout rentals.
