As you have heard, the current administration has slashed forest personnel and dollars spent on maintaining our forests and parks.
In light of these cost cutting measures, we as users will have to step up to keep our forests and parks clean, safe, and open for all to enjoy. We may loose some parks to budget cuts, and forests to neglect. So we, the users must take up the slack. I would like to encourage all who use our trails to join organizations like the Washington Trail Association, Idaho Trail Association, The Spokane Mountaineers and so many others. The ball is in our court. Now is the time to keep what we can from going by the wayside. PLEASE, consider joining the below organizations. If by chance I’ve missed some groups, please let me know so I can add them to the list. Washington Trail Association https://www.wta.org Idaho Trails Association https://idahotrailsassociation.org The Spokane Mountaineers, Inc. https://www.spokanemountaineers.org/s/ Inland Northwest Lands Conservancy https://inlandnwland.org Dishman Hills Conservancy https://dishmanhills.org Inland Northwest Trails Coalition https://www.facebook.com/p/Inland-Northwest-Trails-Coalition-100064551589960/ Turnbull National Wildlife Refuge https://www.fws.gov/refuge/turnbull/get-involved Conservation Northwest https://conservationnw.org Spokane County Regional Trail Plan https://static.spokanecity.org/documents/parks/trails/spokane-county-regional-trails-plan-2014.pdf Spokane River Keepers https://www.spokaneriverkeeper.org/volunteer The Lands Council https://landscouncil.org/news/best-day-hikes-in-and-around-spokane-wa Pacific Northwest Trail Associated https://www.pnt.org/volunteer-groups/ The Nature Conservancy https://www.nature.org/en-us/about-us/where-we-work/united-states/washington/ Riverside State Park Foundation https://riversidestateparkfoundation.org/home Friends of Mount Spokane https://www.mountspokane.org The above is a partial list of organizations we have around Spokane. Instead of just using our trails, we at InlandNWRoutes.com https://www.inlandnwroutes.com, encourage all users to help us keep our trails open and healthy. While on your hikes, pick up trash, make sure campfires are dead out, kick twigs, branches rocks, etc. off trails. PLEASE carry with you, about a dozen plastic grocery bags. They can be used as water buckets to put out smoldering campfires. A note about David and my trail work. David Davis spent last summer as a Trail Work coordinator for the PNT.org. (Pacific Northwest Trails) He has also logged many hours with the WTA.ORG, Spokane Mountaineers, and other organizations. Chic In 1991 I adopted Lower & Upper Stevens Lakes and Lone Lake, from the USFS CDA River Ranger District After all holidays and when I can, I hike into the lakes and cleanup the campsites, put out smoldering campfires, and with Spokane Mountaineer Trail Boss, Lynn Smith, our organization does two trail work parties per drainage, one in June and the other in September. My past work on trails is too extensive to list all. But with the Spokane Mountaineers, I’ve racked up over 100 trail work days. David and I would like to THANK YOU ALL, for reading and using our website. Please feel free to contact me at [email protected], concerning anything on our website. There is an envelope at the bottom of every page, that goes directly to me. Our trails, parks, rivers, air, lands, forests, and fellow hikers, THANK YOU for volunteering.
